What’s in for 2009? The “B” Workouts

That right for 2009 it’s Back to Basics, Boot Camp and Budget Friendly, these will be among the popular fitness trends of the New Year according to ACE (American Council on Exercise), America’s leading authority on Fitness and one of the largest fitness certification, education and training organizations in the world.

·         Boot Camp Workouts: Boot camps remain extremely popular because they provide a total-body workout that’s varied, fun and challenging. They are done in a group setting and can also be a social activity as well as exercise combining both into one. You can burn up to 600 calories during a boot camp session, which facilitates weight loss. In addition to a great cardiovascular workout, muscles are strengthened through exercises such as pushups, squats and lunges.

·          Getting Back to Basics: Despite the fact that many exercises and equipment are becoming more advanced and trendy, trainers will continue to focus on basic movements and techniques with their clients again. This trend exemplifies movements that are easy to learn.  Movements clients can do on their own and shows the tried and true basics never go out of style.

·          Budget-Friendly Workouts: With today’s economy showing no signs of strengthening, more people will cut costs to stay in shape. Of the ACE-certified professionals surveyed, 48 percent said that gym memberships will decrease in 2009 and 52 percent said less people will hire personal trainers. Look for more people to use the resources around them as their gym and equipment. Look for Online Training as a way to stay with your personal trainer at a lower cost.

More top trends mentioned by ACE for 2009:

Dance Classes will be all the rage this year thanks to Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, classes like Zumba and new classes like Bollywood will be heading your way.

Circuit Training combining strength with cardiovascular activities at different intensities.

Event and Sport Specfic Exercises

Boomer geared for those 50+

Kettlebells

Technology-Based Fitness: From iPods to Cardio Cinema to exergaming (i.e., Wii Fit, Expresso Bikes) the latest in technology will continue to infuse itself in all aspects of fitness. Look for 2009 to provide more interactive video games that provide fitness benefits, as well as new inventions to make exercising a more engaging experience.

2009 looks like a great year to keep fit with yet more new and exciting things to come so no excuses out there.  Keep those resolutions this is your year to get in shape!
