It happens far more often then we realize. We've put in the work, we've over come setbacks and challenges, and then, just before we start to see the fruits of our labor, we just give up. We quit just when we were about to succeed. I guess that we can take some comfort from the fact that we didn't know how close we were to getting what we wanted. We generally don't have to live with the disappointment of knowing that the door to our success was just about to open when we stopped knocking.
Unfortunately, it seems that the number one reason for failure is giving up too soon. You're right there, right where you want to be, and you don't even realize it. Why is it that we work so hard, and get so close, only to quit at the very end?
First of all, it really is true that it is always darkest before the dawn. Have you ever been outside in the hours just before sunrise? It's pitch black. Unless you're wearing a watch, you won't know that in a very short time the glow of dawn will start breaking through the darkness. The same is true for success.
You may have been working for months, or even years, with steadfast dedication to your goal. Then, all of the sudden you're fed up. You've done everything you can, you've worked so hard, and yet your not where you want to be. You just keep getting met with frustration and disappointment. It's the last straw. You're done. I've been there, I know what it feels like to be in that moment.
In that moment you're blind. You have no way of knowing how close you are to getting what you want. You have no way of knowing whether everything you've been working for will show up tomorrow or at all. Is it worth it to continue? In some ways you can't really know. There's no sign up in the sky telling you how close you are to what you want? Although life would be far easier if there were.
In this moment you have to start asking yourself some tough questions. Is quitting really an option? Is there another way to get what you want? What if you really are only two short steps from the finish line? If you knew that, would you still quit? Is what you want worth the effort to pick yourself up and keep going? What is the impact to yourself if you quit? It's times like these when you need to have an honest conversation with yourself.
Imagine that what you want is right around the corner. It's all there, just waiting for you to get there. It's all yours and it's waiting for you. Is what you want worth the effort to keep going? If so, start asking for help. Whatever your spiritual practice, now is the time to pray.
Divine help only comes to you when you specifically ask for it. That is one of the good and bad aspects of free will. In this moment you need all the help you can get. I see it this way. Your running a marathon and your goal is at the finish line. You're less than a mile from what you want, and you're in pain. Your hurting, your tired, and you just want it to end. You can't see the finish line yet because it's around the corner and hidden by a group of trees.
In your desperation you finally ask for help. You are then surrounded by everyone in Heaven with your highest and best interest at heart. You are surrounded by hundreds of Angels and Guides all there to help you do one thing. Finish. They cheer you on, they prop you up, they carry you. Whatever you need to get there is given to you. You may not see it, you may not be aware of it. Some how though you manage to find the strength to carry you on.
You cross the finish line. You are one of the few who chose to keep going and reach your success, even when it looked like you would never get there. Congratulations! The world is yours for the asking. Keep your successes and use them as your guide. Whenever you reach the point of quitting again, think about your most recent success. How many times could you have quit when you were just about to succeed? And always remember to ask for help when you need it. Help is always available to those who remember to ask.
