Welding And Burning Safety

Welding and burning operations have a potential to cause personal injuries and fires.When performing either task it is essential to take some precautions.
*Proper ventilation must be used when burning or welding.
*When burning or welding you must wear personal protective equipment.
*Before starting to burn or weld you must inspect your work area to ensure that
sparks or molten metal will not contact flammable or combustible materials.
*You must have a fire extinguisher nearby.
*Never weld or burn on barrels,tanks,piping,vessels or any other systems that may have contained combustibles or unknown products.
*Use flash arrestors on all cutting torches prior to use.
*Use welding screens when welding near other people to protect from welding flash.
*The frames of all welding machines should be grounded.
*Do not use lighters or matches when lighting torches.A striker should be used.
*Do not use oxygen to blow off welds or clothes.
*A proper respiratory mask should be worn to protect from manganesim.
