Single Deck Blackjack

Most experienced blackjack players know that the most profitable form of blackjack is the Single Deck blackjack game. Although most gamblers know this, a lot of them don’t know how to maximize their profits or how to really use the advantage that a single deck game offers.

First, here are some numbers. But religiously following the basic blackjack strategy card, the casino’s house edge in a single deck game is only 0.07% (This can be higher or lower depending on the specific rules in place). This is the lowest edge you can find in any casino game. This fact by itself makes single deck the game of choice for anyone going to the casino to make any form of profit. Players who mastered the art of card counting can give themselves a 0.5%-1.5% edge over the casino.

How does this advantage come into effect? Let’s compare a single deck blackjack game with an 8 deck game. Let says you are dealt 6,5 for a total of 11 and you need a 10 to get to 21. Let’s also assume that dealer’s exposed card is not a 10 or another face card. In  a single deck game there are now 16 cards out of the 49 cards you haven’t seen that will give that coveted 21 or 32.7%. In an 8 deck game there are 128 cards that will help you out of 413 but your chances of hitting a ten are only 31%. The single deck game offers you better chances to win.

Now that you’ve seen an example for advantage a single deck game offers you need to know to use that advantage in your favor. That means learning and memorizing the single-deck blackjack strategy card by heart. Different games have different strategy cards so make sure you are learning the correct one or all will be vain. If you are playing in online casino (although single-deck games are hard to come by) you can just print a copy of the strategy card to have it besides you while you are playing.

I’ll leave you with a very important tip regarding blackjack games which pay 6:5 for blackjack. These games should be avoided at all costs since they seriously lower your edge even if those games are single deck games. Luckily for us regular blackjack games are still available so we at least get the option to make the right choice.
